Some of the best memories for us as a family that grew up in a winter city, are of the outdoor winter picnics that we enjoyed every Family Day. Learning to embrace the crisp air and chilly temperatures, and always ready to make the most of every opportunity to get outside and enjoy one another’s company. It became a tradition for us on Family Day to call up our grandparents and head off with all of our equipment and food stuffs to a local city park. We’d spend the day roasting hotdogs, go sledding and skating until our toes were numb, and then we’d venture back to the fire for a mug of hot chocolate and roast marshmallows to make sticky smores’.
As adults, we still set aside the Family Day holiday to get together with one another for a winter picnic. Though now the back yards of our homes have become the place for most of our outdoor family gatherings. With lots of bench seating around large fire pits, and close to electrical outlets for those of us that may need heated blankets to keep warm, we still call our grandparents up and they bravely come out to join us in the outdoor fun! At 84- and 77-years young, they’ve taught us how to embrace each day, each other, and the winter weather, in order to make wonderful memories that will last.
We hope you get the opportunity to spend time together in fun activities that will make your Family Day a special one to remember too.
Sincerely,
The Rosts
