Everyone needs a little R & R from time to time. We know how lucky we are to be living in Alberta, where the vast prairie land provides us with ample opportunity to step back and just breathe in the warm summer air and take in the views! And what views they are. From rolling farmlands to the Rocky Mountains, the dry badlands down south to lakeside fishing, our province offers beautiful vistas for us to enjoy. While we love the fast pace of the work we do, the hustle, negotiations and the extra cup of coffee that gives us a boost in the afternoon. We also know we need time when we can step back and just enjoy the sound of a bird chirping or the wind sighing through the trees to refresh our batteries.
So, with the long weekend upon us, it’s time to make plans for a day or two of rest and relaxation. Just driving the highways, which is a daily routine for us, it’s nice to know that we don’t have to go far to find a spot where we can just park our vehicles and take in the surrounding views! Ever ready to make the most of every opportunity, keeping a cooler in the car with cold water and maybe a snack or two, allows for welcome downtime when the surrounding view needs more than just a passing glance. Of course, with all the rain this year it’s an absolute must that there is a can of mosquito spray in the car too, and don’t forget the sunscreen.
We’re planning to enjoy a BBQ in our parent’s backyard, which is a veritable oasis. With hanging baskets, flower and vegetable gardens, bird baths and feeders, a pergola, a gazebo on a ground level deck and a raised upper deck, fire table and 4 seat pool, and strategically placed umbrellas and misters to keep us cool it’s a great spot to relax.
So, with temperatures set to soar this long weekend, why not pack a cooler, grab a lawn chair and discover a quiet spot where you can stop and take in the views. Even if that spot is your own backyard!
Sincerly,
The Rosts
