Happy Easter Weekend!
While our family will be spending some time celebrating this weekend with Church services and Special dinners, we will also be spending some time outdoors enjoying the longer, warmer days. And, since the snow has melted, that means it’s also time to inspect our homes and properties for any issues that may have cropped up over the winter. May we suggest you too take a little time this weekend to complete the following spring maintenance:
1. Snow and ice can cause damage to eaves and downspouts that may require attention. Check for drips or leaks at seams and connections in order to avoid water dripping onto walkways below, or running down the side of the home and under siding during the spring showers that are bound to come.
2. Inspect the foundation on the exterior and interior for cracks, especially at stress points, such as basement window corners. With so much freezing rain this past winter, and the freeze thaw cycles, smaller cracks may have become larger and could pose a threat to the home’s seal. If you find damp areas on the inside it’s important to address them immediately, to avoid larger issues.
3. Check out the roof as best as you can. Look for bare spots where shingles may have blown off during strong winter winds and for curling edges that indicate the life span has been reached. It’s important to maintain a full covering of the roof to prevent water leaking in where it can damage the interior of the home.
Spending a little time checking over these items will allow all of us to enjoy the long Easter weekend, and the spring season, knowing our homes are protected and water proof. So, bring on those April Showers, It’s Spring time once again!
Sincerely,
The Rosts
